Spring Break Day 4

On our last day at the resort, the girls (Monica, Annika, Jan, and Kristen) went to the downtown area of Montgomery and spent the morning walking and shopping.  They took some great shots.  After naptime, Annika wanted to go back to the beach, so we headed out.  The kids would have stayed longer if we let them.  The weather was beautiful, and even though Asher doesn't normally like sand, he sat and played away.  We capped off the evening by walking down to the frozen yogurt shop.  I think the walk was more fun than the ice cream :)

Fire ants!

Spring Break Day 3

In Montgomery, TX, not far from Lake Conroe, there is a wolf sanctuary.  They rescue wolves and wolf/dog hybrids that were removed from homes, shows, and breeders. Turns out, wolves don't make great pets, who knew.   It was pretty amazing, for us adults.  The kids loved it for the first 15 minutes or so, enjoyed looking at the wolves, but once the tour started, that was too much sitting for this 2 year old, and a little much for the 5 year old.  It was worth it in the end when they brought out one of the more docile members, a female named Tala that was over 80% wolf and raised by a sweet old lady who just couldn't give her the attention she needed, so she gave her to the sanctuary.  The kids did get some wolves that do make great pets, they are sleeping with them right now.

Spring Break Day 1

For our Spring Break this year, we flew down to Texas to visit dad. This was the kids first flight, so they were pretty excited.  Luckily, Grandma has a couple of mini iPads for her classroom that we were able to comandeer for the trip, so each of them had something to play/watch, coming in very handy when we had to wake up at 3:30 in the morning to get to the airport.

She loved watching the tarmac and all that went on with the planes, fascinated by all that went into our plane ride :)

And it didn't take long for our 3:30am alarm clock to catch up.  The ride from the airport to the resort was over an hour, so that gave them plenty of time to catch up on some sleep.
We found a park within walking distance from the condo, so we got to enjoy the weather and get some exercise.

Spring Break Day 2

On our second day, we went down the road to the yacht club on the shore and had fun.  The kids played at the park, we took some great pictures, and just enjoyed spending time together.  Oh yeah, and it was St Patty's day, so that was fun :)

March Date Night

For March's date night, I took Monica out for supper while we were in Texas.  We went to a seafood restaurant on Lake Conroe, enjoying a beautiful evening with some good food.  It was kind of a dive bar type place, but fun.  Afterward, we grabbed some ice cream and walked around.  It was not the original plan, but it was great spending time together without the kids, school, swimming, or anything else to think about.

Gymnastics Bus

Annika and Asher's daycare had a group known as the Gymnastics bus come by once a week for a few months.  It is a pretty genius idea, the couple who own and operate it renovated an old school bus and loaded it with gymnastics equipment, making it a portable gym.  The kids loved it.  They were very good at it, so much so that the owners talked about how impressed they were with their athleticism.  Not that I brag or anything.  It was fun to watch their recital of skills that they put on one snowy Saturday morning.  At the end they got a trophy, they ate it up.

February Date Night

Originally our February Date Night was going to be drinks and Jazz at the The Blue Room, a famous jazz bar in Kansas City.  The weekend we had available to us was the same weekend as the boys state swimming and diving meet.  On Saturday, when we got back into town from the meet, Monica dropped the kids off with my mom, and we decided to stop by the State Celebration with the swim parents at Johnny's Bar and Grill.  We had a few drinks and some food, and took off towards downtown.  We were both getting kind of tired, so we decided to swing by Cheesecake Factory for some dessert and headed home.  We ended up watching a movie while we enjoyed our cake, and fell asleep a little early, but it was very nice to be able to spend some alone time with her, especially with how busy the swim season gets at the end.
