Old Shawnee Days

After days of rain, we finally got a nice night and we decided to take the kids to Old Shawnee Days, a fair in Old Shawnee Town.  We fought the mud, but the kids loved the rides, got to enjoy some ice cream, and in the end, didn't want to leave.

Home Depot

Home Depot offers a program on the first Saturday of each month where the kids get to build something.  They are free kits where the kids use real tools and learn some basic tool skills while putting together something neat.  It was a little hard to let her do it on her own at times, but in the end she put her truck together all on her own.  She loves to build and learn how things work.  When I had to put the repaired tire back on my car, she was right there, learning how to do it.

Getting her certificate for completing the truck.
Teaching Asher how to use a hammer to build their Helicopter.

Swim Team

Annika is old enough for swim team so we signed her up for Derek's team this summer.  She was so excited to go that first day and has been doing more and more each day.  She is improving every day, but most important she is having such a good time!

Science City

I asked Annika what she wanted to do this summer and the first thing she said was she wanted to go to Science City.  We happen to have free tickets from when Asher won the costume contest a couple years ago at Spookfest so off we went!  It was such a good time.  Neither kid gets the fact that everything is about science but who cares?  It's fun!

Mother's Day

Every year since Annika was born, Monica has been walking in the Mother's Day 5k.  She usually pushes Annika in the stroller, this year, Annika wanted to walk herself.  It went great, until the poor thing fell, then she was in the stroller for the rest of the way.  Regardless, they had a great time, followed by family breakfast at Waffle House!
That afternoon, we decided to take Asher to his first movie, Home.  He loved it,

End of School, Beginning of Summer

The end of the school year brought Annika's last day of daycare.  I'm so excited for Annika to start kindergarten, but at the same time it saddens me that my little girl is getting so big!  She is so excited and ready to be in kindergarten and I can't wait to see what it brings her.
The end of the year also meant that I had to pack up my classroom to get ready to move buildings.  I have been at Apache for 14 of my 15 years of teaching.  This has been my home for almost all of my career and I am so sad to leave.  At the same time, I am excited for something new.  Plus, my new school is close to home and we found Asher a great daycare!
On the first weekend of summer we started with a birthday party in the park and a quick trip to Hy-Vee, which isn't complete without riding the horse!

This is a nightly occurrence.  The kids love going for walks and Annika is having a blast riding her bike or scooter around the neighborhood.
Summer also means Annika's favorite show:  Ninja Warrior.  Which means our house often looks like this with the kids running and jumping around their own Ninja Warrior course.
Summer also means that at any given time our house looks like this.

 I love summer.
