Peter Pan

Ashton was in the play Peter Pan at Theater in the Park this summer.  He played one of The Lost Boys.  So we packed up on opening night and went to cheer him on.  I wasn't sure what Annika would think of the play and if she would stay interested or get bored.  She was captivated from the moment it started!  She loved every minute and went back two more times with Jan!  The play was great and Ashton was wonderful!

4th of July

Our little city holds Village Fest every year on the 4th of July.  For the past 8 years, Derek and I have talked about going but have never made it.  We made it a point to go this year so Annika could see Funky Mama.  She is a lady who plays rock and roll for kiddos and Annika loves her!  After we enjoyed the concert we walked around looking at the animals, eating doughnuts, and letting Annika play on the the inflatables.  For lunch we made an American Flag out of fruit, which Annika thought was super fun!  We opted out of fireworks since both kids were asleep by 8:00.  Maybe next year!

Zoo Part 4

As we were walking out of the zoo we noticed a fountain where kids were playing.  Annika asked to go play so we stopped.  Asher wasn't impressed and was asleep in about 5 minutes.  Annika, on the other hand, had a blast and was soaked!

Zoo Part 3

After visiting the bears, we went to go grab some lunch.  We did eat real lunch, not just ice cream, but that wasn't as fun!

After lunch we went to see the gorillas.  They had a huge exhibit and you could see a lot.  Annika like this but was starting to get tired and was asleep soon after we left.

With Annika asleep, we decided to stop and sit for awhile.  We found an area that had turtles and of course, Asher had to climb all over them.

The next stop was the aquarium and boy was this fun!  Both kids were mesmerized by the fish and loved it all!  Well, maybe Annika didn't love the sharks, but Derek sure did!  We tried to get a picture with Asher, but he wouldn't look away from the fish!

The last stop of the day was at the Butterfly Pavilion.  This was pretty neat.  We went in and there were a ton of butterflies everywhere.  Annika isn't too fond of bugs and this was not her favorite, but I think it was one of mine.  Some of the butterflies were beautiful!

Zoo Part 2

After we played on the playground for a bit, Annika wanted to see the elephants.  No problem, right?  Wrong.  This zoo does not have elephants!  So, we continued around the zoo and ran into the prairie dogs.  This was the neatest thing because they were just out and about, not behind fences.  One of them came right up to us and started chewing on Asher's stroller!  Annika thought they were cute, but wanted them to stay a good distance away from her.  They were so very cute!  Annika then wanted to ride on the train but we decided on the tram instead.  It took us all around the zoo, where we saw a bunch of stuff we had already seen, but, Annika thought it was great!

After our tram ride it was off to see the cats.  I was surprised that Annika was not scared at all.  She went right up to the fence or the window to see them.

It was about this time that Asher decided he was tired and wanted to take a nap.

The last stop before lunch was to see the bears.
