Daisy's

One of the new things Annika gets to experience along with Kindergarten is the Daisey's for Girls Scouts.  She's in a troop with many of her classmates, and it has given her a chance to get to know the girls better and do some really cool and fun things.  They had the opportunity to go to the Prairie Village Police Department and see the cool things police officers do and use.
Another thing that they were able to do was go to a Senior Living home and sing Christmas Carols.
Don't get comfortable back there....

Jingle Bells! Jingle Bells!

Royals

This Fall, my colleagues at Olathe East decided to do a family day at a Royals game.  Thankfully, we have a connection to the Royals through my swim team, so I contacted him to hook us up with tickets and we took the kids to their first Royals game.  They loved playing with the other kids in the tailgate before hand, and after about 4 1/2 innings (1 1/2 innings longer than we expected) we headed to the Kids Zone to play at the Little K.  We met up with Annika's friend Beckett and they had a blast, running the bases and playing on the equipment.  They thought the crowd cheers were great and Annika discovered her favorite player, Mike 'Moose' Moustakas.
We heard 'Let's Go Royals!'  and 'MOOOOOOSE!'  cheers for weeks afterward :)
Of course, the Royals went on an exciting run, ending in winning the World Series.  We had a lot of baseball on TV at our house from June through November, and we even woke up Annika to watch the winning celebration that late Sunday Night.  Since it had been 30 years since last one, when the parade was announced, we decided that we would take Annika to see it.  The school districts called a Blue Snow Day, making it even easier.  We got lucky on our way downtown and caught a bus early, and had to battle the 1 million Fan crowd, but what a memory.  Seeing the look on Annika's face when Moose drove by made all the standing around, walking, and claustrophobia worth it.

Seeing the field for the first time.

Let's Go Roy-als!

And....done...

Halloween Part 2 & 3

For Halloween, both kids were very excited.  That morning, we headed down to the Prairie Village Shoppes, the closest thing to a downtown area we have.  We met with a handful of Annika's classmates around to area, the businesses handed out candy. Even the liquor store got into it, giving a treat to the parents with a sample of beer or wine.  Mom and Dad met us later on that day, and we headed to a neighborhood not far from our house, but with better sidewalks.  The Royals were playing Game 4 that night, so many houses that were giving out candy had TV's set up in their garages or driveways, so we were able to check the score for the first couple of innings before the kids filled up their pumpkins with candy (that monica and I had *very* little).
While the Royals did not fare so well, the night was a success.

Halloween Part 1

We had a lot of fun with Halloween this year.  A local artist shoppe had a Pumpkin Painting session, so we bought a couple of pumpkins and headed over.  The kids really got into it, mixing the paints, and colors in really cool ways.  Annika painted a KC for the Royals because they were playing in the playoffs and had won the night before.  We were not really sure what Asher was painting, but he knew, so you can see what the results were.
Later that afternoon, we got dressed up in the Halloween costumes and hit up Spookfest at Science City again.  The kids loved playing and messing around with the exhibits.  There was a costume contest.  While both kids were very cute, Annika's division had a couple of very good costumes, but Asher took his age group again with his Wizard!

Ready to paint!

Playing Catch Up

So updating the blog has been pretty nonexistent lately.  I was considering not keeping it up and just using social media to keep track of pics and our day-to-day happenings, but decided to start this up again in hopes to eventually print it into a book.  That being said, I'm going to spend some time catching up and going back to Halloween and work from there.  Here's to a new year and an updated blog!
